Hydrostatic Release Units (HRU) is a device designed to release the life rafts on board when the vessel is about to sink. Due to its vital function as a lifesaving appliance, the sectors and systems utilizing HRU is as wide as to include maritime sector, oil platforms, cruise ships, military ships, yachts, leisure crafts, and evacuation systems in the aviation sector. The system is stipulated as the vessel starts to submerge and activated before the vessel reaches 4 meters depth underwater. Once the unit is activated, it cuts off the link between the vessel and life raft and releases the lifeboat.
