Our hooks are used to prevent wooden railway sleepers and trunks from cracking. When a tree is cut down in the forest and not taken to the sawmill within reasonable time the drying saps, rainfall and dew work on the wood and the precious trunk begins to split and to crack.
As a result, the economic value of the timber decreases considerably. In order to avoid this loss the S-hook is driven into the core of the trunk with an axe or a hammer. The bended ends of the hook keep the wood perfectly safe together. Prior to further treatment of the trunk, the hook is removed again.
S-hooks are also an important means to stabilize the hardwood of railways sleepers. They are fixed to both face ends and thus prevent splitting of the sleepers.
